AboutThank You from the Heart-Thanking Our Veterans is a program I created in 2018 designed to help veterans in two ways. First, it works to educate young Americans about who veterans are, what they have done for us, and ways we may show our gratitude. Second, my program engages veterans directly to show them our appreciation. The program originated as an in-person presentation; however, with the onset of COVID-19, it was imperative that Thank You from the Heart become COVID-19 friendly. I designed and created an entire online presentation for that consists of five short videos via YouTube and a PO box for anyone interested in mailing cards for distribution to veterans. By creating an online presentation, Thank You from the Heart is promoted to teachers and youth organization coordinators on a statewide, and now national level, since Veterans Day, November 11, 2020.
Fun Facts: Featured Veterans Day News Story, NBC 26 and WFRVTV 5; Girl Scout Gold Award; Volunteer Fox Cities Youth Alliance Award; four-time forensics national qualifier; third degree black belt in karate; made smores atop an active volcano in Guatemala. |
How can you get involved?
If you are a teacher, youth organization coordinator, or parent, check out my online presentation at "Thank You From the Heart-Thanking Our Veterans" on YouTube. Another important way that any individual can get involved is through showing gratitude towards veterans! There are so many ways people can respect our country and our veterans, not just on Veterans Day, but every day. Some examples include donating time at various veteran events, monetary contributions, saying thank you when seeing a person in uniform, rising during the national anthem, standing when military members pass by during parades, and respecting designated veterans parking stalls, just to name a few. A simple gesture, such as a handshake and smile, or giving of time requires minimal effort compared to what veterans have given us. Thank you, veterans for your service!
